AVID-(Advancement Via Individual Determination)

AVID is a program designed to increase school-wide learning and to help students in the middle prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities. The AVID program teaches students how to study, read for content, take notes, and manage time. The class focuses on reading and writing skills, organizational skills, Socratic questioning skills, and collaborative learning skills.

  • Writing Cornell notes in all classes
  • Researching professional careers
  • Visiting college campuses
  • Interacting with guest speakers
  • Standardized test preparation
  • Weekly tutorial sessions with trained tutors
  • WICR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, and Reading) based lessons

General Classroom Expectations

Students in my class are expected to…
  • Be punctual (you are tardy when the tardy bell rings)
  • Turn off and put away all electronic devices (cell phones, i-pods, etc),
  • Bring all needed materials daily,
  • Keep books, desks, walls, furniture etc… Free from marking and writing,
  • Students are expected to listen and respond appropriately when others are talking.
  • Remain in the assigned seat (unless otherwise instructed), and be prepared to work when the bell sounds and until you are dismissed
